Buyer Beware!!! False Advertisement at Its Finest
This horrible train wreck of a performance I attended in Chicago on Sat 10/1 with 2 of my friends, I don't even know where to begin. First of all, we knew something was up when MC Lyte came on stage before the play started and stated that "this is NOT Love Jones. There are no lines or poetry from the movie in this performance. This is an adaptation of the movie." Everyone was in complete shock since this was advertised as Love Jones The Musical, and pretty much a celebration of the 20 year anniversary of the movie. MC Lyte was absolutely correct. Nothing about this play is Love Jones besides the names of the characters. The storyline was all over the place and it was a complete joke towards the end. People began to walk out because of how dreadful this play was. Movements & Chrisette Michelle were nowhere to be found. Marsha A came out in the last 15 minutes of the play and performed 1 song. Dave Hollister performed 1 song. THAT WAS IT! I was not expecting a full-blown concert from everyone but for a play that was highly advertised as "STARRING" all of these individuals and 2 were no shows and the others were on stage for a good 5 minutes I find that absolutely misleading and false advertising. Needless to say we, with many others, left that theater in complete dismay about what we had just experienced. COMPLETE DISAPPOINTMENT. If I could give this musical a negative 10 stars I would. The actors in the play were pretty good, but the storyline, or lack there of, totally overshadowed their talents.
